Fable 5 Returns: How to Maximize Your Week of Free Access

Anthropic's flagship model, Claude Fable 5, is back with a week of free access until July 7th. This guide explains how to maximize this window by using the model for critical design and building defensible, real-world value.

Fable 5 Returns: How to Maximize Your Week of Free Access

One of the most talked-about developments in the AI industry right now is the return of Anthropic's flagship model, "Claude Fable 5."

Fable 5 is a Mythos-class flagship model that was released on June 9th. It was reported to significantly outperform competitors in software development and long-form agentic tasks. However, shortly after its release, on June 12th, the U.S. Department of Commerce issued an export control directive due to national security concerns, forcing Anthropic to suspend both Fable 5 and Mythos 5.

Why was it suspended?

The trigger was a "jailbreak" of Fable 5. Reports suggested that certain prompt combinations could potentially extract information useful for cyberattacks, leading to the regulatory intervention. Anthropic countered that these were narrow techniques—akin to having the model read a specific codebase to fix bugs—that could be replicated on other models. Nevertheless, they complied with the legal directive and temporarily halted access for all users.

On June 30th, the U.S. Department of Commerce lifted the export restrictions, and access to Fable 5 began to be restored starting July 1st.

Don't miss the "one week of free access"

Here is the main point: according to Anthropic, users on Pro, Max, Team, and certain Enterprise plans can use Fable 5 up to 50% of their weekly usage limit at no additional cost until July 7th (US time). Since the exact cutoff time isn't public, verify your usage dashboard. In short, there is a brief window to test this flagship model within your existing plan.

To make the most of this, leverage your weekly reset. Since you get 50% of your limit, if your weekly reset falls within this period, your capacity will refresh. Claude’s limits are on a rolling 7-day basis starting from your first use of the week. Check your reset time under "Settings > Usage." Aim to tackle heavy tasks immediately after your reset. If timing aligns, you might get two cycles within the free period. Use this expensive model (roughly double the cost of Opus 4.8) for critical design and decision-making, while offloading routine tasks to Opus or Sonnet.

The question is—what will you build in this week?

Aim for the "Big Picture"—but use intelligence for "Design"

With Fable 5's power, the possibilities are vast. You can tackle complex systems like OS kernels, game emulators, or custom programming languages. Since these are well-documented areas, AI excels here.

The key is that you don't need to "finish" everything. Spend the flagship model's power on the most non-replaceable parts: architecture and identifying critical bottlenecks. Once the core is solid, standard models like Opus can handle the implementation. This week is for "thinking to the limit," not just "finishing the code."

A word of caution: don't mistake a diagram for a completed design. Verify the most questionable core components during this week. The goal is to include verification in your workflow while you have access to the smartest model.

The real target: "Things that AI alone cannot complete"

Let's go one step further. If something already exists, AI can easily replicate it. Code itself is no longer a barrier to entry.

Therefore, your target should be "things that AI cannot finish alone"—things that are defensible and difficult to copy. This includes proprietary data, physical operations (retail, logistics, field work), regulatory compliance, hardware, brand, and deep community relationships. The source of value lies outside the code. This is why we at Azabu System operate our own services and take real-world risks; the ability to code is no longer a differentiator. The difference lies in the "messy" reality that AI cannot replace.

And what not to build

Don't treat this as a "magical week for building anything." Fable 5 was suspended because of potential misuse in cyberattacks. It is designed with safety guardrails for high-risk domains like biological, cyber, and AI development. Do not attempt to build weapons or attack tools. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of these boundaries.

Understand and hold the reins

Finally, when you get a powerful tool, it's easy to get lost in "what can I build?" But true value comes from understanding what you create and maintaining control. Don't waste this week creating black boxes you don't understand. Understand, hold the reins, and verify as you build. What you create with your own understanding is what will last beyond this week.

The free access lasts until July 7th. You can wish upon a star, but we prefer to achieve it with our own hands. What you build is up to you.
